Ride safe this winter – Visibility, confidence & smart riding choices.

Dear Y/ELM+ rider,

We hope you’ve had a good start to the year. January often brings some of the most demanding riding conditions of the season. Darkness, snow, ice and limited visibility ask a little more of us – which makes winter a natural time to revisit our safety routines.

Here are a few things we keep top of mind during this part of the year:

Riding outside
Winter riding conditions are rarely predictable. Frozen ground, fresh snow and hidden ice patches can appear where you least expect them.

  • Prioritise visibility — in both directions. Reflective gear is a great foundation, but being able to clearly see the ground ahead is just as important as being seen. If you ride with our Hybrid Helmet, the +Headlight attaches seamlessly to provide stable, focused light that moves with you.
  • Adapt to the conditions. Studs can provide valuable grip when conditions require it, but they work best alongside thoughtful route choices, a calmer pace and a willingness to adjust your plan when needed.
  • Choose protection you’ll actually wear. Additional protective equipment, such as a safety vest, can add confidence in challenging conditions. Our products are designed to offer you certified protection while maintaining comfort and full freedom of movement.
  • Extra peace of mind if the unexpected happens. In case of an accident, our crash sensor helps ensure someone is notified, adding an extra layer of reassurance when riding alone.

A shared responsibility
At Y/ELM+, we believe safety isn’t about riding less — it’s about riding smarter. Small, intentional choices made consistently help build long-term confidence for both rider and horse, whatever the season brings.

We’re continuing the conversation around winter riding and visibility over on Instagram, and we’d love to hear from you. What helps you feel safer during the darker, colder months? Share your routines, tips or experiences and help inspire others in the community.

Wishing you a safe, confident and rewarding start to the year,
— Team Y/ELM+ ✨
