Folksam's independent test focuses on protection against rotational forces—the type of impact most closely associated with concussion. Helmets equipped with rotational impact protection (Mips®), including the Y/ELM Hybrid Helmet 2.0, generally demonstrated lower brain loading and a lower estimated risk of concussion.

The results revealed substantial differences in safety performance, with the estimated concussion risk being up to eight times higher in the worst-performing helmets compared with the best-performing models.

The independent Folksam test also showed that a higher price does not necessarily mean better protection. Only 4 out of 15 helmets awarded Folksam's highest "Recommended" label in the 2026 independent equestrian helmet safety test.
